Conifers

The majority of our conifers are grown from cuttings; they are grown on in 9cm pots until well rooted and established, the plants are then ready to be re-potted into larger pots or planted directly into the garden. The size of the plants will vary according to the time of year but would normally be 15 to 30cms tall, or 10-20cms wide for ground cover plants. We feel plants of this size and grown in this size pot offer excellent value for money. However some more established plants in larger pots will sometimes be available. The size of the pot the plant will be supplied in will be indicated after the description of each individual plant.

Cupressocyparis leylandii (Castlewellan Gold) - Common Leylandii

Upright, vigourous conifer. Slightly slower growing than the green variety. Grown for its bronze-yellow foliage. Excellent hedging plant. Initial growth rate 1.5-2ft (45-60cm) per year, once established rate increases to 3-4ft (1-1.2m) per year. Matured unpruned height up to 65ft (20m), spread 38ft (12m).

Our plants are approx 120cms tall in a 3 litre pot.

A sort of 'Castlewellan' Gold, but it has foliage of a much better yellow than other forms. Excellent for hedging and doesn't scorch. Growth rate in first year, 1-1.5ft (45-60cm). Once established rate increases to 3ft (1m) per year. Mature unpruned height 50ft (15m), spread 25ft (8m).
